Keeping The Weight Off During The Holidays

During the Holidays your diet and exersize seem to go right out the window, and eating seems to take its place. If you are worried about gaining a bunch of weight, you shouldn't be! Most people gain 1-2 pounds during the Holidays, and only 12% of people gain 4 or more pounds. Here is how to make the most of the Holidays and not put on the most weight.

Forget The Gym
Most people simply just do not have time to go the gym over the Holidays, and you really do not have to. Instead download a step counter app, and make your goal to reach the amount of steps need in that day, Take the stairs or walk faster (which won't be hard because it is so cold out.) As long as you are moving every day, you should have no problem.

Watch Your Diet
A good rule is to watch what you eat 70% of the time,  so that means you can have 2 cheat days a week. So if you decide to eat that dessert or have an extra serving of stuffing, DON'T STRESS ABOUT IT! You are allowed to live and enjoy it! If you are concerned about the amounts you are eating, then stick to water to avoid any extra calories.

Avoid Snacking
Anything that you can eat without a knife and fork should be avoided. Snacking leads to hundreds of extra calories a day! Even avoid fruits and veggies if you are going to be dunking them in something. Instead, eat one biscuit or roll with dinner or with your salad.

Sleep, Sleep, Sleep!
By not getting enough sleep, you are not allowing your body to properly recover from the previous day. If you get less then 7 hours of sleep a night, this can leave to cravings and more calories. This can lead to you gaining more than a pound a week from lack of sleep. So do your best to get 8 hours of sleep a night.

Drink Plenty Of Water
Water is one of the most important parts of daily life. It keeps your metabolism up and running. You should drink half of your body weight in ounces of water a day. Drinking that much water will keep you hydrated so if you do have a few adult beverages, then you will bounce back quicker.

Try out these tips during the Holiday's to help avoid packing on the extra pounds. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!

Beach Tips That Will Keep You Looking Great During The 4th Of July

Every one loves spending there 4th of July at the beach or barbecuing with the family. Looking good while being in the pool or any water is not usually easy and can cause drying of your skin and hair. These are some great tips to keep your hair and skin, looking great, and feeling soft.

Sunscreen
Using sunscreen is the best form of protection against UVA (anti-aging rays) and UVB (burning rays). Any form of SPF will do, (especially if you still want to get some color), and it is best to use a spray form that is water proof. Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before doing any outdoor activity, and if you are going to be in the water, be sure to reapply your sunscreen every 3 to 4 hours to keep from getting burned.

Body Lotion/Face Moisturizer
Even if you are not going to be in the water, it is important to keep your skin moisturized, as well as protected from sun damage. Aphrodite's Head Esthetician Susu recommends to use Epionce's Active Shield Lotion. It has an SPF of 30, and is great for all skin types. It is perfect for your face and body, just do not apply on your eyelids. It is also great for everyday use. It offers protection against UVA and UVB rays, and is also Paraben- Free.

Hair Protection
Before you go out into the sun, your hair needs to be protected. Aphrodite Stylist Tina recommends to use Paul Mitchell's Color Protect Locking Spray. The spray offers UVA and UVB protection for your hair. It absorbs into your hair and extends the life of your color. It also adds a great shine. Use this everyday after styling your hair and before leaving the house.

While your at the beach, your hair needs protection just as much as your skin does. Your hair is damaged from being in water, as well as from the sun. While your at the beach, Aphrodite Stylist Emily recommends to have the Healthy Sexy Hair Beach Duo with you. It contains a Soy Renewal Beach spray, which is great to spray on your hair just after getting out of the water. It is a leave in conditioner, that keeps moisture in, while protecting and healing the hair from environmental damage. It also contains the Soya 22 in 1. This is a leave-in treatment, that absorbs into the hair shaft to rebuild and protect the hair from roots to ends. They work off each other and are made from soy and argan oil.

Make-up For the Beach
While your at the beach, you want the look of fresh, bare skin on your face, without really having no make-up on. The best things to keep on hand are a tinted lip balm (that has UV protection), and waterproof mascara. The lip balm is great to add a pop of color to your lips, while protecting them from getting sunburned and becoming dry. Pink is usually a great shade to go with it. Wearing waterproof mascara is great because it will really make your eyes pop, and you do not have to worry about getting raccoon eyes from your mascara running. Reapply your lip balm every hour or so to keep your lips extra moisturized.

These tips will help keep your hair and skin looking great during your 4th of July weekend. Have a Happy 4th of July!!!

Aphrodite's Favorite Summer Trends and Products

Along with hot weather, and gorgeous tans, summer has some great trends in the world of hair and make-up. It is a great time to change up your look, and play around with different products. Here are some of our favorite summer trends and favorite products that are great for summer.

Summer Trends:

Braids

Braids are the perfect hairstyle for any occasion. There are some many different types to try! You can have something casual like a fishtail, or just a hanging braid, or go for something more sophisticated like a french braid or rope braid. Any look can be played up for a wedding or summer party, or played down for a more casual beach look. You can do a side braid into a bun or ponytail which are great if you are going out. Braids will always be in style for a fun summer look.

Changing Up Your Hair

You can change up your hair in so many ways, from deciding to go for a new cut, maybe just add some bangs or layers, or even change up the color. Your hair is a great way to express your personality and style. Love your long hair but want something new? Add some layers to give it that extra something. Curious about getting bangs? Find some you like and give it a try! What to add a little something to your hair? Highlights are the ultimate go to for summer. Just a few all over to enhance your skin tone, and some dimension into your hair. And if you really want to do something fun, try a colored ombre! Purple, red, blue, or pink are all fun options. Remember to always have your hair colored and cut by a professional. They know what they are doing, and it will keep you from having accidents involving your hair.

Pedicures

Pedicures are the MUST DO of the summer. Everyone wears open toed shoes in the summer and nobody wants to have unfinished feet and bare toe nails. Pedicures are a great form of relaxation, and will leave your feet looking and feeling great. There are some great polish trends for the summer as well. Go for a vibrant color next time you get a pedi. Orange, yellow, hot pink, and lavender are all great options. Even if your not into any of those colors, any color you chose is better than unpolished toes.

Great Summer Products:

The Wet Brush

The wet brush is probably one of the greatest new products out there. It makes brushing your hair when wet much easier and less painful. Take it with you anytime you are going to be near water, and once your done in the water just simply add product of your choosing and brush your hair. You will notice less pulling on your hair then a normal bush, and its perfect for all hair types. Use it wet or dry and the wet brush will become your favorite brush to use.

Redken Anti-Snap

Anti-snap is a great summer product because there is no washing it out. It is a leave in treatment that can be used after a shower, or you have been in the water. Just 2-3 pumps, rub together and apply all over your hair (focusing on the middle and ends.) Anti-snap is used to help strengthen and repair damaged hair, while protecting its natural shine. It is quite obvious why we love it so much. Stop in and buy one today!

Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask

This mask is a great addition to your regular hair services, especially in the summer. This hydrating mask hydrates and conditions the hair to help improve texture, elasticity, shine, and even makes it easier to manage. This is great for the summer because people are constantly outside, and in water, which causes hair to become dry and dull. Come in once a week, and get this conditioning treatment to keep your hair in great shape.

This summer trends are great to try and play around with, while these summer products are great to use all year around. Come in and try one of these summer trends today, or pick up one of these great summer products. We wish you healthy hair, and great looking toes!

2014 Summer Trends

Hair, nail, and make-up trends change as quickly as the seasons do. Summer will soon be here and you should prepare yourself with the hot trends for this year.

Hair
This summer it is all about the grown out highlights. The grown out highlights is basically the ombre look, but more of a softer transition from dark to light, or light to lighter. To get the best look possible, be sure to have your stylist cut your hair to something that flatters the look. Get a deep conditioning treatment a few days or a week prior to the coloring. This will help protect your hair before the coloring process. Also get a treatment after the coloring process, to help repair any damage done to your hair. It is the summer, so rock your natural waves!

Nails
This summer on your toes it is all about the bright, glossy reds. Not red-orange or red-blues, I am talking RED! Pick like a cherry red, with a shiny top coat. It is a classic look, but be sure to fix any chips quickly because they really stand out on red nails. And avoid any glitter. It takes away from the classic look. For your hands, it is more of a simple natural look. No need for long fake nails, natural nails are best for the summer. Use a lighter, transparent color and apply thin even coats, allowing drying time between the coats. Nobody wants ridged or streaky polish.

Eyes
Change up your look this summer, and add a bold pop of color by using eyeliner. Pick a bold eyeliner color and apply. To make it stay longer, apply a thin line of the same color in eye shadow on top of it. This is a fun way to change up your everyday look, and keep it fun. Be sure to apply mascara on your lashes, other wise your make-up will look unfinished.

Lips
This summer skip the boring old skin color lipsticks and reds for a bright orange. Before applying, use a heavy lip balm so the color really stays on the lips, and doesn't rub off. Pick your shade and apply. The orange will brighten any skin tone! Because you are going so bold on your lips, keep the rest simple. You’re already making a statement, no need to over do it.

Keep these trends in mind for when ever you are going to a party, event or even hanging out on the beach. You will have people wanting your look and dying to know where you get your hair, and nails done, as well as what make-up you are using. Be yourself and have fun.

How To Create The Perfect Date Night Look.

Everyone is always nervous about what to wear, how to do there make-up, and how to wear there hair for a first date or important date. There is no need to stress about it. Here are some easy tips on how to wear your hair, your make-up, what perfume scents are best, and what you should always keep on you (in case of an emergency!)

Make-up

You want to look pretty, attractive, but not overly done. Think about where you are going for the date. Most likely some place with dimer lighting, so do not over do the skin make-up. Skip bronzer and use a light foundation, bb cream or tinted moisturizer. Be sure that it matches your skin tone, you don't want to have your neck one color and face another color. Apply a light amount, enough to cover your whole face without layering it on. Next is blush. Use a cream blush for the best application and longer lasting results.Powder blush easily comes off when you wipe your face with a napkin. If you have darker skin, go for something with a red tone in it. For lighter skin, go for a light rose colored blush. It adds a pop of color to the cheeks without making your whole face look pink or red.

For your eyes keep it more simple. Do a more relaxed smokey eye. For lighter skin, use a brown liner to first define your upper lashes. For darker skin, use black or dark grey. Lightly smudge the liner before applying a grey eye shadow. Finish your eyes with your favorite mascara that really makes your lashes look fuller and longer.

For your lips, keep it natural and simple. First line your lips and fill them in with a lip liner that is the same shade or slightly darker then your natural lip color. The lip liner will act as a base to allow the lipstick to last longer and not run. *(Always use a lip liner before applying lipstick It defines the shape of your lips and keeps it from running or smearing as easily.) Follow with a glossy lipstick or gloss of the same shade. The shine will make your lips look fuller and irresistible.

Hair

The three things for great date night hair is that you want it to shine, look great and be soft. A messy look is a good look to go for. It makes you seem playful but well put together. Try a messy bun. It is quick and easy and can make your look more fun. Another great idea is do a lose braid into a ponytail, bun or just in front. You can do a rope braid, or french braid. Braids are cute and can make a look playful  but sophisticated. There is also nothing wrong with having a great blow-out. It is a very classy look.

Perfume

Wearing the right perfume can set off good vibes for another date, while wearing the wrong perfume can be a complete turnoff. Do not wear anything to strong. Strong perfumes can turn guys away quickly, and they may be sensitive to certain smells. Also do not spray too much. You do not want it to cover your whole body. Add a spray behind each ear, on your wrist, (rub together) and behind your knees. It is just enough so whenever you move, he can get a bit of your scent. The spray behind each knee, allows the scent to travel up as it evaporates, keeping your perfume lasting longer. Stay away from citrus and  fruity scents. Stick to a classic scent that makes you feel sexy and confident. Wait 30 minutes before your date arrives to apply your perfume. It allows the perfume to really soak into your body. Also after you spray, wait a few minutes before getting dressed. If you spray it on your clothes, they may stain.

You should always keep a few emergency items in your purse besides the usual pain killers, tampons/pads, and your make-up for easy touch ups. You should keep a mini bottle of your perfume just in case you need an extra spritz. Blotting sheets to absorb any excess oil on your skin, it works better then powder. A mirror, or a phone case that has a built in mirror for easy touch ups. Also create a little emergency kit to take with you anywhere. Have it include deodorant, deodorant wipes, a stain remover, hair spray, nail files, gum or mints, and the rest of the stuff we have listed. It will keep you prepared for all situations.

These are some tips and things you can do to help your date go great, even if there are a few small problems along the way. We hope that you have a great first date and many more to come!

Preparing Yourself For Fall

When the weather begins to change, you need to prepare yourself so it doesn't effect you in a harsh way. Trends change as quickly as the seasons, but it is still important to keep up with your beauty treatments. Here are the current things you need to continue doing, to make sure you look great during the colder months.

Nail Care
Getting regular manicures and pedicures is not just a thing of the summer, and its not just for women. Men need to get there nails filed, cleaned, and feet scrubbed just as much as women do. Most people think that you only have to get pedicures when your toes are going to be showing. It is even more important to get your nails done in the dry, colder months then in the summer. Even though your feet are not showing, they still get dry, and brittle. Your nails should be cleaned, filed, and the cuticles pushed back to help prevent diseases and injuries. You should get a manicure every two weeks. The more often you get your nails done, the stronger they will grow, the healthier, and nicer they will look. You should get a pedicure every 4 weeks, to keep them from getting dry, brittle, and callused.
There are great nail polish colors that you can use. The in fall colors are deep berry colors like pink and purple, dark neutral colors like nude and grey's, polish with fine glitter, and darker shades of blue. Try out one of these colors by coming in for a manicure/pedicure today.

Skin Care
Taking care of your skin is extremely important. Always wear sun block, exfoliate your skin, and wash your face with the correct regimen. You should go in and get a facial at least once a month. It will really cleanse your skin, remove any dead skin cells as well as dirt, and give it a more firmer, youthful look. It allows a professional to look at your skin, to figure out if it is lacking any vitamins, moisture, or is producing to much oil. They will help guide you to use the best products for your face and body. Not only should you get facials to take care of your face, but you should also get a monthly body scrub as well. Body scrubs exfoliate your skin, to give it a healthier look and feel. There are three different types that we do. They are a sugar scrub, salt scrub, and a coffee scrub. The salt scrub is used as a cleansing and exfoliating procedure, that leaves your skin clean. The sugar scrub is a more milder scrub, but has the same effects as the salt scrub. A coffee scrub is a bit different. It is harsher then the both scrubs, and can be called a sauna scrub. It is used to exfoliate, and detoxify. It can help reduce cellulite by filtering into problem areas, help reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and help reduce excess water weight. They all exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, rejuvenate skin to leave it smooth, soft and with a healthy glow.  Come in and get your facial or body scrub today.

Hair Care
Getting a hair trim every 4-6 weeks is important all year round. As the fall approaches, the colder weather and wind will dry out your hair. To help with the dryness and to improve the amount of moisture in your hair, you should come in every 2-3 weeks to get a treatment. If you color your hair, you should have a treatment to help restore your hair back to its original health. Each treatment does different things. We offer a wide variety of hair treatments that range from a deep condition treatment, to restorative, to keratin treatments. In the fall people like to change up there haircut and color. Rich browns and red-browns are in for the fall, as well as long-layered haircuts, and short haircuts. Come in to get your hair cut, a treatment and maybe even a color.

These trends and services will help you to get prepared for fall. Come in and let us pamper you.

Different Types of Massages and the Benefits of Getting a Massage

A good massage has more benefits then relieving stress, working out tired muscles, and helping the body relax, it also can improve the overall health of your body. The back massage focuses on relieving pain and tension from everyday life. A back massage will increase the overall circulation, helps with healing, can help improve sleep, relieve stiffness, improve flexibility, and relax the body and mind.  A neck and shoulder massage helps relieve tension and help reduce migraine pain. This massage is normally 30 to 45 minutes long.

These are some of the most popular types of massages. They are not all offered everywhere, and are done by trained professionals only. To improve your overall health and well being, you should get a massage at least once a month, more if you can afford it. You will notice a lot less pain in your body, a better ability to focus, and hopefully less stress. Treat your body and mind by booking a massage today.

Why You Should Try Sugaring.

In the world there are two forms of hair removal methods; temporary and permanent. Each has advantages and disadvantages. There is a newer method of hair removal called sugaring. I am going to talk to you about the different forms of hair removal and why you should try sugaring.

Temporary Hair Removal. Temporary hair removal is done by either depilation or epilation. Depilation is the removal of hair above the skin and epiliation is the process of damaging skin cells deep into the skin.

Shaving: Shaving is one of the best known and most popular form of temporary hair removal. There are many different types of shaving equipment. You can use disposable, or reusable razors, and they have different razors for men and women. Shaving is cheap and easy form of temporary hair removal. Shaving can cause razor burns, bumps, bleeding and ingrown hairs, and the results only last for a few days.

Depilatory Creams: Depilatory creams such as Nair, are creams that you rub onto a area of hair, and let it sit for 5-10 mins, and wipe away with a damp cloth. You have smooth skin for about a week. It sounds fine, but it is made of harmful chemicals that burn the hair off. If you have any cuts, or have sensitive skin, you can get very bad chemical burns.

Threading: Threading is a common Middle Eastern form of hair removal. It can be seen and done in malls all over the world. They use thread that is looped around the hair, and moved in quick motions to remove the hair. It looks like an effective way of removing hair, but all threading does is cut the hair at the follicle. It is actually very similar to shaving. If done wrong, threading can cause bacterial infections, redness, and irritation to the threaded area. It can also be very painful.

Waxing: Waxing is the best form of temporary hair removal. It removes hair from the follicle for an average of 4-6 weeks. The hair has to be at least half an inch long for waxing to fully remove the hair. It is quickly done. Waxing can have many side effects though. It can cause stinging, bleeding, ingrown hairs, bumps, redness, burning or tearing of the skin.

Permanent Hair Removal:  Permanent hair removal is the act of completely removing the hair from an area of skin. It can be done through electrolysis, and sugaring. Permanent hair removal is done in many sessions, and it prolongs the hair growth, so it gets thinner, and thinner after each session, to the point where is doesn't grow back at all.

Electrolysis: Electrolysis is a laser hair removal method. Light is directed at the hair and absorbed by dark pigment, which results in the destruction of the hair follicle. This method is sometimes permanent after many session. Laser hair removal is done in a number of sessions, which is very expensive and very painful to get done. Many places charge at least a couple hundred dollars up to thousands of dollars per a session.

Sugaring: Sugaring is a more relaxing alternative to hair removal than waxing. Sugaring can cause some redness, or irritation, but side effects are very minimal and are gone by the end of the day. Sugaring allows clients to have soft skin for weeks, as the all natural paste exfoliates as it removes unwanted hair. Along with the fact that the unwanted hair has been removed, and it stays off much longer than shaving or waxing, you have baby-soft skin. No stubble or growth for weeks! In fact, frequent sugaring can actually become permanent. You should have sugaring done every 4-6 weeks. After a few sessions, the hair will grow back slower and thinner, so your time in between sessions, becomes more and more.

If you are ready for soft, hair-free skin, then sugaring is the solution for you! Come and try sugaring today. You won't regret it.
