Fixing Distressed Winter Hair

Everyone has a problem with there hair when winter comes around. Its flat, dry or has lots of static. If you have ever wondered how to fix your distressed winter hair, this is the post for you. Here are 5 main winter hair problems and how you can help to fix the problem.
1. Flatness. Every women loves to have big voluminous hair, and sometimes the winter weather does not allow this to happen. During the winter months, the air becomes drier, and has less moisture, all because there is less humidity. The humidity tends to just effect those who have finer hair. You can help your hair out by using a thickening shampoo in the shower. They are made to add bulk to your hair, without the extra product to weigh it down. When you blow-dry your hair, use lightweight styling products that come in a liquid form. It will make it easier for you to blow-dry your hair with volume, and the lightweight products formula won’t weigh down your hairstyle.
2. Dryness. In the summer months, the heat makes your scalp produce more oil, which keeps your scalp hydrated and your hair shiny. During the winter months, the cold air will dry out your scalp, and using hot styling tools drys out your hair even more. When you shower, switch to a shampoo and conditioner that adds moisture to your hair. And every other week you should go in a salon just to get a scalp treatment and style. The scalp treatment allows time for the scalp to retain moisture, and give you healthier feeling and looking hair.
3. Flakiness. Do you feel like since the weather has become much colder, your scalp is much more flaky then normal. This is because your going from a warm house, to a cold climate on a daily basis. It causes your skin to flake faster than normal, especially on your scalp. Try using a shampoo with natural based products. Lather your hair and leave the shampoo on for about 2-3 mins then rinse. Follow with a natural based conditioner. Wash your hair every other day, and on the off day, use a dry shampoo before you brush your hair. It will soak up the oil that the skin flakes attach to.
4. Static Hair. While you keep warm when your outside using winter apparel, when you go inside to take it off, your hair becomes a static mess. This is because dry hair strands, attract to positively charges, and when you remove your hat, it causes them to repel, which gives you the static in your hair. The natural oils in your hair help prevent static, so try to not wash your hair as much. Wash it 3-4 times a week, and you can always use a light amount of hair spray or water to smooth down the stragglers.
5. Split Ends. Split ends are the result of damaging your hair over and over again. It can be from the weather conditions, over use of hot styling tools, and from not getting your hair trimmed enough. The best way to fix split ends is by getting a hair trim every 4-6 weeks. A trim is only less then an inch of hair being removed. There are products that help get rid of split ends, but all they do is camouflage them for a few days. The only way to get rid of them is by cutting them off. So visit a salon every 4-6 weeks to get rd of your split ends.
Do these things to help minimize the winter distress on your hair. Thank you for all of your support.

How To Create The Perfect Date Night Look.

Everyone is always nervous about what to wear, how to do there make-up, and how to wear there hair for a first date or important date. There is no need to stress about it. Here are some easy tips on how to wear your hair, your make-up, what perfume scents are best, and what you should always keep on you (in case of an emergency!)

Make-up

You want to look pretty, attractive, but not overly done. Think about where you are going for the date. Most likely some place with dimer lighting, so do not over do the skin make-up. Skip bronzer and use a light foundation, bb cream or tinted moisturizer. Be sure that it matches your skin tone, you don't want to have your neck one color and face another color. Apply a light amount, enough to cover your whole face without layering it on. Next is blush. Use a cream blush for the best application and longer lasting results.Powder blush easily comes off when you wipe your face with a napkin. If you have darker skin, go for something with a red tone in it. For lighter skin, go for a light rose colored blush. It adds a pop of color to the cheeks without making your whole face look pink or red.

For your eyes keep it more simple. Do a more relaxed smokey eye. For lighter skin, use a brown liner to first define your upper lashes. For darker skin, use black or dark grey. Lightly smudge the liner before applying a grey eye shadow. Finish your eyes with your favorite mascara that really makes your lashes look fuller and longer.

For your lips, keep it natural and simple. First line your lips and fill them in with a lip liner that is the same shade or slightly darker then your natural lip color. The lip liner will act as a base to allow the lipstick to last longer and not run. *(Always use a lip liner before applying lipstick It defines the shape of your lips and keeps it from running or smearing as easily.) Follow with a glossy lipstick or gloss of the same shade. The shine will make your lips look fuller and irresistible.

Hair

The three things for great date night hair is that you want it to shine, look great and be soft. A messy look is a good look to go for. It makes you seem playful but well put together. Try a messy bun. It is quick and easy and can make your look more fun. Another great idea is do a lose braid into a ponytail, bun or just in front. You can do a rope braid, or french braid. Braids are cute and can make a look playful  but sophisticated. There is also nothing wrong with having a great blow-out. It is a very classy look.

Perfume

Wearing the right perfume can set off good vibes for another date, while wearing the wrong perfume can be a complete turnoff. Do not wear anything to strong. Strong perfumes can turn guys away quickly, and they may be sensitive to certain smells. Also do not spray too much. You do not want it to cover your whole body. Add a spray behind each ear, on your wrist, (rub together) and behind your knees. It is just enough so whenever you move, he can get a bit of your scent. The spray behind each knee, allows the scent to travel up as it evaporates, keeping your perfume lasting longer. Stay away from citrus and  fruity scents. Stick to a classic scent that makes you feel sexy and confident. Wait 30 minutes before your date arrives to apply your perfume. It allows the perfume to really soak into your body. Also after you spray, wait a few minutes before getting dressed. If you spray it on your clothes, they may stain.

You should always keep a few emergency items in your purse besides the usual pain killers, tampons/pads, and your make-up for easy touch ups. You should keep a mini bottle of your perfume just in case you need an extra spritz. Blotting sheets to absorb any excess oil on your skin, it works better then powder. A mirror, or a phone case that has a built in mirror for easy touch ups. Also create a little emergency kit to take with you anywhere. Have it include deodorant, deodorant wipes, a stain remover, hair spray, nail files, gum or mints, and the rest of the stuff we have listed. It will keep you prepared for all situations.

These are some tips and things you can do to help your date go great, even if there are a few small problems along the way. We hope that you have a great first date and many more to come!

Get the Best Highlights Possible

Getting highlights is a great way to add more tones to your hair, and give your hair a lighter look without being to drastic. Highlights can be done thick or thin, very noticeable or more natural looking, or in the ombre look. Getting the best highlights by a stylist can be determined by your haircut, color and the look you want to achieve. Here are some great ways to makes sure you are going to get the best look possible.

The Highlight

Highlights come in a variety of shades. You can highlight your hair by making it any color lighter then your existing color. You can make them dramatic by going very light against your dark color, or more natural by only going a few shades lighter then your existing color. When you are going to get your hair highlighted it is important to remember what look you want and what type of haircut you have. When you have shorter hair, highlights look more noticeable then when you have longer hair. If you have bangs, keep the highlights thinner. It will make your bangs look thicker. If you have a blunt haircut (where the hair is all one length and symmetrical) your highlights need to be symmetrical as well. It is easily noticed if they are not.

Why you shouldn't do them at home.

Just because the commercials say it is easy to do and you just paint the highlights on it really is not that simple. You need to know the proper color and developer to use to get the color you are looking for. Just because the box says your highlights will be blonde, it doesn't necessarily mean it will work that way. And you can not see your whole head, so you can't see where all the highlights are being placed. Instead of doing it yourself, and it not turning out exactly how you were expecting, it is best to leave it to the professionals.

Getting Your Highlights

Do not shampoo your hair on the day of, the natural oils of your hair help it from becoming as damaged. The colorist will help you decide what shade you should go with, but don't try to use colorist terminology. It is best to compare what your looking for to a food or have a picture so the colorist knows exactly what you are looking to achieve. It also makes it easier for them to tell you what there going to do and how you are going to achieve this look so that way you know what is going on. After the highlighting process is done, you should always get a deep conditioning treatment to help repair the damage that was done to your hair. Also, for the best looking color ask the colorist for a gloss treatment. It is usually about $20 extra (depending on the salon) and really adds a great shine to your and makes your new hair look even better.

At Home Care

Now that you have a new hair color, it is time for a new routine. Do not shampoo your hair everyday. It can cause the color to fade quicker, and it removes the natural oils in your hair that help keep your hair healthy. Also use a color protecting shampoo. It helps reduce fading and keeps the color bright. Use a heat protecting spray. Anytime you are going to blow-dry, straighten, or curl your hair this is a must. It protects the hair from the high heats, and keeps it looking shiny. Do a deep conditioning treatment once a week to help repair any damaged ends. You just put it on your hair for 5-10 minutes once a week and rinse.

Getting highlights is just like getting your hair colored or cut. You need to get it done every 4-6 weeks to keep the look the best it possibly can be. Change up your look, by getting your hair highlighted today.

Mascara Mistakes & Eyelash Tinting

The majority of women wear mascara on a daily basis, and always wonder why sometimes they can't seem to get it right. There are some things you might not know about mascara and it can be causing problems. Here are some tips to get better looking lashes with and without mascara.

Mistake 1: To many coats. Mascara is only made to do 2 coats at most. If you apply more coats, the mascara will dry as you applying it and will cause your lashes to stick together. To keep  this from happening make sure you buy a new tube of mascara every three months. If mascara gets to old it may not apply as nicely as it used to, so you will feel like you need more coats. Be sure to not apply mascara over mascara from the previous day as well. It will cause clumping.

Mistake 2: Pumping the wand. When you go to apply mascara, you have been known to pump the wand a few times if you are getting low. Do not pump the wand! It causes air bubbles in the mascara, which causes it to clump. Instead, twist the wand in the tube as you pull it out, and wipe the excess mascara off at the top as it comes out. It will prevent excess mascara from getting on your lashes.

Mistake 3: Keeping mascara too long. Mascara does not necessarily have an expiration date, but you should change your mascara about every three months. Mascara harbors germs and bacteria that can cause itching of the eyes, redness and even pink eye. If you can't remember how long you have had the mascara for, its safer to just throw it away and buy a new one.

Mistake 4: Improper application. Applying mascara properly is the key to great looking eyes and make-up. You can have the best eye shadow and it can be ruined by having bad mascara. Be sure when applying that you go all the way to the root. Start at the root and wiggle the wand back and forth, then bring it up in a smooth motion to the ends of your lashes. It will make your lashes appear longer, and your eyes brighter.

A great way to avoid all of these problems and have great looking lashes at all time is by getting your eyelashes tinted. It is a $35 service that gives you dark, longer looking lashes for 4-6 weeks. Eyelash tint is an all natural vegetable dye that is applied to the upper and lower lashes starting at the root and going to the ends. It is left on for 10 minutes, the excess is removed. You will no longer have to take the time to remove or apply mascara.

Anti-Aging Make-up Tricks

No matter how much you try, your skin and body ages every year. As you get older, your lips, lashes and eyebrows naturally get lighter, which causes a contrast in the colors of your skin. By adding dark colors on your eyes and lips, it can create more of a contrast which will make you look even older. Here are some simple make-up tricks to make you look younger.

Start with a creamy foundation, that matches your skin tone. You can use your lower cheeks to determine a color, and do not use your neck because it tends to be lighter from the lack of sunlight. Apply a small amount to your entire face making sure you cover your forehead, nose and chin, while blending it down onto your neck. Use a damp sponge to blend and remove any lines from the product.

Use eyeliner. As your lashes begin to lighten, it makes it harder to see them and determine where your lash line is. If you have lighter skin, use a brown pencil, and a black pencil if you have darker skin. Using a pencil gives you more control and allows for a more natural look. Apply the liner to the top only, so it does not give the effect of dragging eyes. On your lids, use a medium brown shadow in the crease of your eye lid, and add a lighter color like champagne to your lid, up to the brown. Be sure to blend the colors so it is smooth. To finish off the look apply black mascara to the top lashes. This look will give you brighter looking eyes, and will minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Blush. To give your skin back its youthful glow, apply blush on the highest point of your cheek bones and blend towards the hairline. Your skin sags as we age, so you want to apply it in a way that it directs you away from the problem areas. Instead of using a powder blush, use a cream. It will give a glow to your skin and will last for the whole day.  If you wish to add bronzer, use it lightly. Apply a c shape from your forehead to your temples to under your cheekbones. This technique will enhance your skin structure and make your skin look lighter.

Defining your eyebrows. Your eyebrows tend to thin on the ends and fade out as you age. Your eyebrows should be natural looking and not take over your face. Use a medium brown pencil or one that matches the color of your eyebrow hair. Use the pencil to apply short strokes to any thin spots, and be sure your eyebrows come to the outer corners of your eye. You can use the pencil to create an arch to your brows as well.

Lips. Your lip color will lighten over time and your lips will also get smaller. To give them a fuller look, be sure to use lip liner first. Lip liner will keep your lipstick from running and give your lips a more defined look. Use a color that closely matches the middle of your lips. Use a more natural looking lipstick, like a medium pink. You can exfoliate your lips before applying lip liner to make them look more plumped as well.

Sticking to more natural colors when you are older will compliment your skin more than doing a dramatic eye and lip. Try these tricks on your next make-up application and you will have people guessing your actual age.

Preparing Yourself For Fall

When the weather begins to change, you need to prepare yourself so it doesn't effect you in a harsh way. Trends change as quickly as the seasons, but it is still important to keep up with your beauty treatments. Here are the current things you need to continue doing, to make sure you look great during the colder months.

Nail Care
Getting regular manicures and pedicures is not just a thing of the summer, and its not just for women. Men need to get there nails filed, cleaned, and feet scrubbed just as much as women do. Most people think that you only have to get pedicures when your toes are going to be showing. It is even more important to get your nails done in the dry, colder months then in the summer. Even though your feet are not showing, they still get dry, and brittle. Your nails should be cleaned, filed, and the cuticles pushed back to help prevent diseases and injuries. You should get a manicure every two weeks. The more often you get your nails done, the stronger they will grow, the healthier, and nicer they will look. You should get a pedicure every 4 weeks, to keep them from getting dry, brittle, and callused.
There are great nail polish colors that you can use. The in fall colors are deep berry colors like pink and purple, dark neutral colors like nude and grey's, polish with fine glitter, and darker shades of blue. Try out one of these colors by coming in for a manicure/pedicure today.

Skin Care
Taking care of your skin is extremely important. Always wear sun block, exfoliate your skin, and wash your face with the correct regimen. You should go in and get a facial at least once a month. It will really cleanse your skin, remove any dead skin cells as well as dirt, and give it a more firmer, youthful look. It allows a professional to look at your skin, to figure out if it is lacking any vitamins, moisture, or is producing to much oil. They will help guide you to use the best products for your face and body. Not only should you get facials to take care of your face, but you should also get a monthly body scrub as well. Body scrubs exfoliate your skin, to give it a healthier look and feel. There are three different types that we do. They are a sugar scrub, salt scrub, and a coffee scrub. The salt scrub is used as a cleansing and exfoliating procedure, that leaves your skin clean. The sugar scrub is a more milder scrub, but has the same effects as the salt scrub. A coffee scrub is a bit different. It is harsher then the both scrubs, and can be called a sauna scrub. It is used to exfoliate, and detoxify. It can help reduce cellulite by filtering into problem areas, help reduce the appearance of stretch marks, and help reduce excess water weight. They all exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, rejuvenate skin to leave it smooth, soft and with a healthy glow.  Come in and get your facial or body scrub today.

Hair Care
Getting a hair trim every 4-6 weeks is important all year round. As the fall approaches, the colder weather and wind will dry out your hair. To help with the dryness and to improve the amount of moisture in your hair, you should come in every 2-3 weeks to get a treatment. If you color your hair, you should have a treatment to help restore your hair back to its original health. Each treatment does different things. We offer a wide variety of hair treatments that range from a deep condition treatment, to restorative, to keratin treatments. In the fall people like to change up there haircut and color. Rich browns and red-browns are in for the fall, as well as long-layered haircuts, and short haircuts. Come in to get your hair cut, a treatment and maybe even a color.

These trends and services will help you to get prepared for fall. Come in and let us pamper you.
